Examination Rules – 2005/2008
Examinations

Teachers must be a financial member of the academy.

All cheques must be made out to the Australian Academy of Theatrical & Ballet Dancing Inc. Not AAD or AATBD. Use Full name.

If you are 45kms from Melb. GPO. A surcharge of $2.00 is to be added to each exam fee.

All entries are to be submitted 14 days before the exam date or an examiner will not be appointed.

Directions for Examination location must be included with entries. Time and Date must also be included.

Examiners do not mind in what order exams are entered on the day.

If a student does not attend on examination day, they have 12 months from that date to re enter. After 12 months a new fee will be charged.

At no time will a refund be given to a student for non attendance.

There must be a minimum of 20 examinations, for an examiner to be sent. The exams may be mixed.

Tap and Theatrical are in the same bracket.

Jazz and Classical Ballet are in the same bracket.

If you do not have 20 entries, it can be arranged for 2 schools to be examined on the same day. With prior arrangements made with the examination coordinator. (But no trophy will be given)

Academy Trophies.

If you have 20 exams in the same bracket on the same day you are eligible for 1 trophy. It then goes on from there. 40 in the same bracket = 2 trophies. etc.

If you have 19 jazz and 10 tap no trophy is given. (as neither bracket had 20 entries)

Academy trophies are given to the highest mark on the day of the examinations. It is the examiners decision.

All Students must pass the exam before they are eligible for a trophy.

Examinations cannot be accumulated over a length of time and then cups awarded.

A student can only be awarded one trophy in each bracket, on day of examination.

Scholarships.

For each 10 examinations passed with honours that are marked out of 100 in the same bracket, you receive 1 scholarship. 20 = 2 scholarships etc.

If 2 or more students have the same mark and only 1 scholarship is to be awarded these students will share the scholarship equally divided.

Tap & Theatrical exams are from July to July (12 months) awarded at the Annual Convention.

Jazz & Ballet exams are from October to October (12 months) awarded at the Annual Recital.

A student can only be awarded 1 scholarship in each bracket.

The student receives a Certificate, and lessons to the value of $50.00.

Examination Day.

Examiners are to be treated with respect, from Teacher and Student.
-
Please do not set unrealistic times for students to arrive or leave for their examination.

No more than 4 students are to be sent into the exam room at the same time. (examiners may decide to alter if deemed necessary)

Morning tea, & Lunch/Dinner break, must be given to the examiner.

Teachers are to supply the above refreshments.

Every 2 hours please allow a small break if required by the examiner.

If your examinations are a two day event, and require an overnight stay, the teacher is required to supply an evening meal.

Do not at any stage make the examiner sit and wait for student to arrive. Have your students ready and prepared to enter

Teachers may not prompt students during an examination.

Parents are not allowed in examination room.

The Examiners decision is final.

If a student wishes to be examined on their own. They must pay a double fee.

The examiner is there to examine, not to do presentations to students. When an examiner has finished for the day, you will be given your critt’s, certificates, medals & trophies.
The teacher is then left to hand these to the students.

If at any stage you are short with medals, they will be posted to you as soon as they are available.

Music. During the exam, the examiner needs time to write on Critts, do not keep music playing until examiner is ready to resume.
- Please explain to your students the correct etiquette that is required in an examination room.
- Neat, clean attire.
- Hair confined from face.
- No jewellery or nail polish
- No talking
- Curtsey required before and after examinations
- Exam paper is to be handed to the examiner.
- Students must stay in order given at beginning of exam.
- A Student must fully understand what will be required from them during the examination. Theory is to explain the step. Technique is to show the step. Amalgamations are to show a combination of Technique (steps) as requested by the examiner.
- Wings – If required to show 2 wings. They must be 2 different wings not a double wing done twice.
- Finally. Tell your students to relax and enjoy the experience, every examiner with the academy is friendly, fair, and just. It is a great achievement to have participated and pass an exam and this will help them to grow and develop as dancers.
